Early Literacy Initiative
Literacy is a key element needed by every child in order to succeed later in life. Without this skill they will have difficulty reading, writing, and functioning as an everyday citizen in the world that is constantly advancing. Today a vast majority of children are entering into kindergarten without the needed skills to be able to read and due to this nearly 88 percent are unable to catch up. Children living in low-income are at a greater risk of having difficulty performing in school, however with Reach out and Reach initiative in Wisconsin combined with the efforts of the American Family Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin children and getting the best opportunities available to them.
Reach out and Read along with 99 other participating programs provides support to more than 46,000 children and their families to help them receive the guidance and support that they need. Within these services they will receive a developmentally appropriate book at their child's well check appointments and told how reading at a young age will help them later in life.
